14 St Edmund's Hosts EREA Conference OPEN DOOR, OPEN COMMUNICATION, OPEN DAY Another glorious Canberra autumn afternoon was the setting for the College’s Open Day 2010. With the band playing in the quadrangle, visitors to the College were welcomed by lively music, hot coffee, hot chocolate and an army of smiling faces – both staff and students. Prospective families, members of our current community and Alumni took the opportunity on Saturday, 1st May, to meet with staff and students, view the facilities and learn more about the story of St Edmund’s College. Open Day is just one of the many opportunities offered by the College to “come inside”. This year the College offered additional Morning Tea and Twilight Tours, Year 7 2011 and Year 11 2011 Enrolment Information Evenings and Tuesday Tours which are held on the last Tuesday morning of each month. The next time you are in the vicinity of the College, please stop by. Maybe you can catch a Tour. If not, someone will always be available to show you around. Jessica Draper-Jones Development Offce In late May, St Edmund’s College hosted the 2010 EREA Principals’ Conference. The Conference was attended by members of the EREA Executive, including the Executive Director – Dr Wayne Tinsey, along with 40 Principals from schools and educational entities from around the country. Our newly renovated library provided a superb venue to hold the various speakers and presentations. Highlights from the conference included: • Keynote presentations from Dr Jim Nickoloff – an American scholar, author and liberation theologian. • The launch of the Educating for Justice and Peace Framework for all EREA schools. • Br Julian McDonald (Member of the Oceania Province Leadership Team and Australian Catholic University Chancellor) – guest speaker at the Conference dinner. • Information and updates from key members of the EREA Executive on current directions and future initiatives. • Splendid breakfast at the College, hosted and provided by students and staff from the Food Science Faculty. Attendees at the Conference were overwhelming in their positive feedback regarding the warm welcome and sense of school spirit they received from the many students they encountered.
