Pelican : November 2009
11 Victorious U14 D2 Blue AFL Grand Final winners. L to R: Year 10 students, Cameron Rybinski, Patrick Reis and Keiren McAlister placed 2nd in their group in the Senior Division at the Mountain Bike ACT Schools' Championships. Tom Larkin one of the youngest members of the team. Early start for Snow Sports' Team. This year, 23 students travelled up to Perisher for the ACT and Southern NSW Inter-School Snow Sports competition. The boys competed over three days in both skiing and snowboarding events and represented St Edmund's admirably. This is the fourth consecutive year we have competed and, even though skiing and snowboarding are not mainstream sports at St Edmund's, the boys produced some excellent results. Geoff Dimarhos did particularly well, gaining 3rd place in the Division 1 Snowboard Cross individual event. This result earned Geoff a place at the National Championships held in Falls Creek but, unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, he was unable to compete. Other snowboarders were Hayden Dutney, James Hill, Jacob Raynor, Hayden Galbraith, Jake Robinson, Joshua White, Jake Gordon, Ben Raynor, Ben Wilkie, Geordie Bain and Ben Reis. All these boys placed well. In the skiing events, Michael Doyle was our best performer with a speedy first run in the Skier-Cross event, placing him 12th in Division 1, with an overall place of 15th. Michael was 11th in the first run of the Giant Slalom event but unfortunately crashed in the second run. Watch out for him next year. Tom Larkin and Mitchell Moss (Year 8) were our youngest competitors. They put in solid performances and recorded excellent times in the Skier-Cross and Giant Slalom events. Jake Scanlon, our top skier, was unfortunately involved in a collision on the slopes which resulted in severe concussion. Jake had to rest and so missed his opportunity to compete in the Giant Slalom and the Skier-Cross. After suffering a nasty headache, Jake recovered well. Our other skiers were James Barrington Smith, Sam Ecclesfield, Rhys Walker Tredwick, Michael Doyle, Patrick Beer, Lachlan Trahair, Anthony Bozzato, Keegan Moore, Rudi Radinger, Tom Larkin and Mitchell Moss. All these boys put in their best efforts and were excellent ambassadors for St Edmund's College. Heather McCalman Snow Sports Co-ordinator Snow machines
