Youth Ministry alive at St Edmund’s College The College at Mass. I’d like to highlight a number of initiatives in 2009 in the area of Youth Ministry that are certainly ‘alive and well’ at St Edmund’s College. Opening College Mass 2009 and Commissioning The Opening College Mass held on 11 February at St Christopher’s Cathedral was a great celebration and commissioning of the new Principal, Mr Peter Fullagar. Being at the Cathedral gave the students an opportunity to experience Canberra’s central Catholic Church, St Christopher’s. A special highlight was the lighting of the College Candle (featured in the front cover photo) by the oldest member of the community, Br Matt McKeon, and the youngest student, Brent Worsley of Year 4 Blue. The Senior Youth Ministry Team for 2009 was also commissioned at this Mass. This year, the vision has been expanded to include three Youth Ministry teams: • a Youth Ministry Liturgy Team that will focus on conducting Ash Wednesday, Easter Liturgies and College Masses • a Youth Ministry Brothers’ Team that will focus on conducting the College Brothers’ service and justice programmes, and • a Youth Ministry Middle School Team that will conduct various activities in Years 4 to 7, including family and Confirmation retreats. This expanded vision is a great encouragement to the College, in that students can embrace their faith in a practical way and contribute to building a Christian culture while at St Edmund’s College. 4 Commissioning of the Youth Ministry Team.
